I chose to paint Starry Night because it's my favorite Van Gogh painting. People still aren't sure when Starry Night was painted. It was around 1889 in Saint - Remy. I also chose it because of the colors. The colors are happy colors and blue is my favorite color. I love the movement in the sky.

 Line is an important element in my painting because Starry Night has lots of different kinds of lines in it. I tried to make mine look like Van Gogh's. I used a lot of swirls because I think they are very creative. I used dots in my stars to make them stand out. I made a lot of curvy lines in my cypress tree to make it stand out. I painted a lot of dashes in my wind.  I used vertical lines on the roof of the houses. I used warm and cool colors in my Starry Night.  The warm colors are like fire and the cool colors are like water. I used craypas and paint in my painting. I changed some of the colors in my version because I thought it would look more alive.

 I am very pleased with my Cypress tree because of the colors. The colors in it are bright and dark. I decided to use brightly colored craypas on my cypress tree to make it "pop out" from the picture. I am pleased with my wind because I like the dashes in it. They really make it look like it's moving. I love the colors in my Starry Night because they are my favorites.

If I could do something differently, I would like to work more on the shape of my hills. I would also like to make the paint thicker so it would look even more like Van Gogh's Starry Night.  .                                                                                                          

 I'm very glad we had this unit because I learned a lot about Vincent Van Gogh's life. In the future I hope I can learn more about famous artists. When I was painting Starry Night I felt inspired. I wanted to use a lot of detail. I felt sad and happy while I was painting.  I felt so sorry for Van Gogh because nobody liked his paintings when he was alive. I wish people had appreciated his paintings like they do now. It's sad how only one of his paintings was sold out of hundreds. Vincent Van Gogh painted great paintings.  I feel happy because now Van Gogh's paintings are some of the most famous in the world. I wish he was still alive to see how appreciated he is now.  I learned a lot about him in the classroom and in the Art room. We also spent time in the Computer Lab on different websites looking at Van Gogh's paintings and reading about them. I thought it was especially interesting that after Van Gogh died his doctor sketched a picture of him on his death bed. I was very sad. I think if Vincent had been given help, like the kind he could get today, he would have lived a much better life.
