After looking at most of Van Gogh's paintings, I chose this one, The Bridge in the Rain, because it was most interesting to me. This painting was done in the Paris period, 1887. I think bridges are great. Van Gogh only created a few paintings with bridges. That is why I think this painting is especially interesting.
This is my version of The Bridge in The Rain. I used a lot of spirals because it looks like a real rain storm. I used white and light blue for the rain I used spirals and dashes to create a realistic rain storm. I put a lot of vertical dashes to make it look like the rain is really coming down hard. I put the spirals in the background because I wanted to make the viewer feel dizzy . I tried to put a lot of detail into the people on the bridge because I wanted to make it look very realistic. I tried to use fewer lines in the background than Van Gogh did so that it would look more real. You will see that my bridge is in the foreground instead of in the middleground, as it is in Vincent Van Gogh's. I put the bridge in the foreground because it worked better for me. It worked better for me because I like bridges. I like bridges because they can hold cars over water.
I am really pleased with how I put different colored spirals in my piece of art because I tried to do it exactly like Vincent Van Gogh's, except he used paint instead of craypas . I'm also pleased with the way I moved the bridge to the foreground and how it turned out.
The area I would like to work more on is the background. I'd like to make it look more 3 dimensional so that it would look more realistic. There are two parts that I am unsure of, if I should have left the bridge with any people or not and if I should have made the water under the bridge darker. .
I had fun making my version of The Bridge in the Rain. What I have learned from this project is that non geometric shapes are called organic shapes and that soap flakes mixed with any color of paint makes your painting rough, bumpy and lumpy to create texture. I think this was a great experience learning about Vincent Van Gogh's life. If Van Gogh was still alive I would treat him him like Babe Ruth, Mark McGwire and Barry Bonds. He is a person worth respecting.
