I picked Van Gogh's Flying Fox because I like bats and it looked like it would be fun to paint. It's not usual that Van Gogh painted pictures of animals. This was the only one I saw. He painted it in 1885 during the Netherlands period. This was when most of his paintings were dark.

The lines I painted were vertical on the bat's wings and horizontal on the bat's body . My shape was organic.  It was a nature shape. Space was important because I had to make the bat stand out so I could draw it in the foreground space .

I was pleased with the body of the bat and the wings turned out well.  It took me a lot of time to paint and draw it.

I am not pleased with the arms because they didn't show up that much.

I learned  that Vincent Van Gogh was poor . He never spent any money on food but he spent it on paint.  He got so upset that he cut off part of his ear.  I liked this project because I liked to study Vincent Van Gogh.
