Mrs. Rosa – 4th

Fourth graders in Mrs. Rosa’s class have already traveled thousands of miles across the U.S. with their Trucker Buddy, Frank. Frank drives for PRIME, Inc. out of Springfield, Missouri.

We look forward to Frank’s weekly postcards of places he has driven. He tells us what he is transporting, the number of miles traveled each month, as well as the amount of pounds he has carried. We learn about the weather he encounters, too.

Since Frank visits his home so infrequently, we correspond with him via the Internet directly to the computer on his truck. He is very prompt in responding and we “talk” several times a week this way.

We have a large U.S. map on the classroom bulletin board that pinpoints where Frank has been. Postcards, maps Frank has used, photos, and other interesting items are also displayed on the board. Children have been using a road atlas to find the various cities and towns Frank mentions or sends cards from and then they locate them on the map.

In Social Studies, we are studying the 5 regions of the U.S. Frank has sent us photos of various landforms that he has seen in his travels. Combined with his postcards and trivia questions about our country, this is such an interesting way to learn about our country and truly an asset to our studies!
