LES Home             Jump Rope for Heart Physical Education Home

Every year in the spring, the Physical Education classes participate in Jump Rope for Heart.  Jump Rope for Heart is provided by the American Heart Association, and the goal is to try to raise money to help with research for heart disease and stroke.  In return, the American Heart Association gives thank-you gifts to the jumpers according to the amount of money the student brings in.  Every student who participates will get a certificate of participation, regardless of the amount of money collected.  The AHA also gives the Physical Education Department money to be used for new physical education equipment.

We do our jump rope unit the 1-2 weeks prior to the event, and then all students will participate in the Jump Rope for Heart event - this will be held during your child's physical education class time.  Jump Rope for Heart is a lot of fun, and the students also learn the importance of having a strong, healthy heart.

According to the American Heart Association, also known as the Heart Fund (©2002):

Heart Attack Warning Signs

Stroke Warning Signs

Not all these warning signs occur in every heart attack or stroke.  If you notice one or more of these signs, don't wait.  Get help immediately!

Heart attack and stroke are medical emergencies -- call 9-1-1.
